Signing the marriage certificate. It turns out that this is something that gets a little less focus in the USA, but over here it’s a crucial part of the wedding ceremony. I love this part, because I have a secret. I actually don’t mind too much about the signing; what I’m looking for is what’s happening between the bride and groom while the witnesses sign. It’s the moments in-between that tie the sweeter parts of life together.
Kiwi Brent and American Kathleen had about one minute to themselves while their witnesses signed their marriage certificate, and after capturing that, I had my lens on these two waiting for the moment I knew would happen. This is often when couples realise what has just that second taken place, and how momentous it is. This is what makes being a full time wedding photographer an important job. It would be easy to think that the slash of ink is the most important part to capture (and it is important) but knowing what’s coming up so I have the lens ready is certainly job number one.
